Extensions

How are they attached?

The extensions are placed one by one to the base of your natural lash using a medical-grade adhesive which never touches the skin. After your natural lash goes through it’s growth cycle, it will shed, taking the extension along with it. You may find natural lashes connected to loose extensions on your pillowcase in the morning, after  showering, and brushing. This is normal, and is actually a sign of a good bond with the natural lash!

Mink? Silk? What are lashes made of?

99% of all lash extensions are made of synthetic acrylic fibers. These fibers hold their shape, are soft and flexible, and have the least possible chance of allergic reaction to human skin. Manufacturers use the terms ‘Mink’ and ‘Silk’ lashes to market their products. The only real difference is that ‘Mink’ have a semi-matte finish that look more natural, while ‘Silk’ have a very shiny artificial look.

How long do they last?

When properly applied, lash extensions can be maintained indefinitely with regular touch-ups every 2-4 weeks.

How often should I book touch-ups?

Most people book their touch-ups every 2-4 weeks to maintain the ideal fullness of their lash extensions. If you have less than 40% of your lashes remaining, booking a full set is required to get your lashes back to the desired fullness.

Should I take breaks/ Do my lashes need to “breathe”?

Nope. Never. At Beauty Lab, our number one priority is long-term lash health. Inexperienced or poorly-educated lash artists often use incorrect methods such as; gluing natural lashes together, using too much adhesive, or applying lashes that are too long and/or heavy for the natural lash to support.

As highly trained lash artists, we place extensions with perfect technical application using a length and thickness that enhances your lashes without causing ANY damage.

These photos are of the same client taken 4 years apart. After continuous wear of extensions with no breaks, you can see that she has perfectly healthy lashes thanks to proper styling and excellent home-care!

Will they fall out at the same time?

A full lash cycle can be anywhere from 21- 90 days. There are three phases (growing, resting, and shedding) that constantly takes place on your lash-line. Just as the hair on your head sheds daily, most people lose 2-5 eyelashes per day. When a mature natural lash on which an extension rests is ready to shed, they simply fall out together. It will be more noticeable when these lashes shed because they are longer and darker than natural lashes. Please keep in mind this is a perfectly normal occurrence, with or without extensions. Over the course of 2-4 weeks, you will typically lose about 40-50% of your extensions, which is why we recommend returning for regular touch-up appointments.

Will this damage my natural lashes?

Absolutely not! Eyelash Extensions get a bad rap for causing damage to natural lashes. Many women who have removed their lashes get a case of what we call “lash-shock.” They become so used to seeing long, full, curly lashes when they look in the mirror, that they understandably think their natural eyelashes look thinner and shorter once the extensions have gone, and are certain the extensions are to blame. In reality, this is not the case because extensions have no chemical effect on the length or thickness of the lashes you were born with. If extensions REALLY made your eyelashes fall out, touch-ups would be impossible because there must be a natural lash to adhere the extensions to! Getting eyelash extensions does not affect the natural growth cycle during or after you decide to stop getting them applied. At Beauty Lab, we always take ‘before’ photos and carefully measure your natural lashes before applying a full set to guarantee that your lashes always stay healthy. With this being said, you are most welcome to simultaneously use a lash serum to help put your mind at ease.

Can I wear mascara and other eye makeup?

The greatest advantage of having eyelash extensions is that you don’t need to wear mascara! There is no mascara on the market that can lengthen or add volume to your lashes better than extensions can!  We discourage using mascara, waxy eyeliner, and waterproof makeup products, as these can weaken the bond and cause the extensions to slide off the natural lashes. If you enjoy enhancing the look of your lashes with eyeliner, we recommend applying powder eyeshadow with a damp angled brush, as this gives you a similar look, yet is easily removed and will not get caked in your extensions. For those who enjoy wearing heavy eye makeup regularly, we recommend bi-weekly touch-ups to keep your lashes looking their best.

Does it hurt/ Are they uncomfortable?

Getting extensions allows you to take some time out of your busy day to relax and unwind. Because your eyes must be closed for the duration of the service, many clients take the opportunity to meditate, listen to music and podcasts, or nap. Our eyelash extensions are soft, light, and weigh less than your natural eyelash, making them extremely comfortable for long-term wear.

Can I swim, shower, sweat, sauna, tan?

Go for it! Lash extensions are the perfect compliment to an active lifestyle and you can get them wet immediately after your service has finished.

Keratin Lash Infusion

What is a Keratin Infusion?

Keratin Lash Infusion is a treatment that can lift and curl your own natural lashes to create a brighter, fuller, wide eyed look. This is a great option for those who already have medium to thick lashes, but want a little extra glam. This treatment mimics the look of using a really good eyelash curler, and lasts approximately 6-8 weeks

How should I prepare for my appointment?

You must avoid using waterproof eye makeup and lash curlers for 3 days prior to your appointment. Do not wear any eye makeup to your appointment, as you must have squeaky clean lids and lashes.

How long does it last?

While it varies from person to person, a Keratin Lash Infusion can last up to 6-8 weeks. There is no need for any maintenance appointments in between, but the process must be repeated every 6-8 weeks to lift the new hair growth. There are some situations that may cause the Lift to drop/weaken prematurely such as swimming, using harsh products, or heat.

Is there any maintenance?

No. Over the course of 6-8 weeks your lashes will start to relax back to their natural state. You may rebook an appointment when your lashes need to be refreshed no sooner than 6 weeks.

Will this damage my eyelashes?

No. Your lash service will be performed with the utmost care and proper technique. The product never touches the skin during the process.

Can I use lash serum with this treatment?

Absolutely! Continuous use of Lash serums can give even more dramatic results.

How often should I have this treatment done?

While there is no maintenance required, most people get their Lash Infusion done every 6-8 weeks to maintain the look.
